Deep Cycle lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are designed, built and optimised for steady prolonged energy delivery, long-term energy storage, deep discharge cycles and stable power output. This makes them ideal for off-grid travelling and camping, marine applications and remote or mobile off-grid power systems.

LiFePO4 (Lithium iron phosphate) Deep Cycle lithium batteries provide a stable voltage output throughout the discharge cycle and do not experience major voltage drops under load. They can also be charged anytime without reducing lifespan (no memory effect).
Although they may feature similar chemistry, not all lithium batteries provide safe and consistent Deep Cycle usage without significant degradation. Other chemistry lithium batteries work better during short energy bursts (ideal for power tools, high performance EVs or UPS systems) rather than sustained long-term discharge. In saying that, more and more regular EVs are starting to use LiFePO4 batteries for the safety aspect of their particular Li chemistry.

Deeper discharge, higher cycle life
Deep Cycle lithium batteries feature a higher cycle life and longer discharge cycles. Notable design characteristics include thicker electrodes to withstand frequent cycling, cell configurations specifically for slow energy release, and battery management system (BMS) configurations that allow deep discharge.

What is the difference between a Deep Cycle and a non-Deep Cycle lithium battery?
Deep Cycle lithium batteries are built for deep discharges and can be safely discharged to 0% SOC regularly, without rapid degradation. Non-Deep Cycle lithium batteries have a higher discharge rate for quick, high-power output and should not be deeply discharged too frequently.
