Why don’t we sell to the big caravan brands?

It’s a question we get asked fairly often, and it’s a fair one. When you’re building premium lithium batteries, you’d think big caravan manufacturers would be knocking on your door. Some have, but it’s not something we’ve put energy into chasing. Here’s why.

We’d rather do it properly than do it at volume

PowerPaul® Australia is still a niche, premium brand. We facilitate the entire production process from detailed design, through to our comprehensive onsite testing processes, ensuring end-to-end quality.

Every battery is backed by in-house customer support, directly from our expert in-house technicians in Melbourne. It’s old fashioned service as it was years ago, attentive, responsive and from the source.

If we started pushing tens of thousands of units a year instead of thousands, something would have to give. And it wouldn’t be the product — it’d be the service. That’s not a trade-off we’re willing to make.

We know our customers by name. We ask the questions upfront to make sure you get the right battery for your setup, and we’re here to help long after the sale. That level of care doesn’t scale the way a factory production line does.

We don’t owe anyone

Our sales levels keep the business healthy. We pay the bills and order components without borrowing from banks or other institutions. That means we’re not under pressure to make rash decisions or react to market swings, economic wobbles, or political noise — and there’s been a fair bit of that lately.

More importantly, it means we’re not going anywhere. There’s no risk of us folding and leaving customers in the lurch with unsupported batteries. There’s no “Plan B” at PowerPaul® Australia— we make the best out of THE plan, and it’s good for everyone.

Big brand deals push prices down — and quality suffers

Selling to large manufacturers almost always means the price gets squeezed to levels that aren’t sustainable long term. We’ve seen it happen over and over in this industry. The product starts strong, then corners get cut, the service drops off, and the customer ends up with something that doesn’t live up to what they were promised.

If you’ve ever dealt with a no-name battery that died within a year, you’ve probably experienced the result of exactly this kind of arrangement.

We want to be in the right setups, not every setup

Many brands chase volume for the sake of visibility. We’d rather see our batteries in setups where the whole system has been designed properly — the right wiring, the right charger, the right BMS configuration. Setups built by people who’ve done their homework, or by installers who know what they’re doing.

Compare that to an off-the-shelf kit slapped together on a weekend with parts from three different brands. Those systems are more prone to failure, and when something goes wrong, it’s often the battery that gets blamed — even when the real problem is everywhere else in the chain.

Premium without being out of reach

We’re accessible enough for people who want to invest a bit more in something that’ll genuinely last, but we’re not pricing ourselves out of the market either. We like that position. It provides value to the product and the brand, and that’s reflected in how our customers talk about their batteries.

When someone gets asked what battery they’ve got, they don’t say “oh, it’s just a whatever brand.” They’re proud to say they’ve got a PowerPaul. And that pride tells us we’re doing something right.

So what does this mean for you?

It means when you buy a PowerPaul battery, you’re getting a product that hasn’t been watered down to hit a price point for a manufacturer. You’re getting the full experience — the quality, the support, and the peace of mind that comes with buying from a company that’s built to last, not just built to sell.

If you’ve got questions about which battery suits your setup, get in touch. We’re always happy to have a chat!

Without a doubt Paul, hit the nail on the head.

Looking at the option to upsize, the investment isn’t going to be profitable with an increase of warranty claims.

You get a bigger crew, you get more deadlines, you will get more warranty and human errors that will null the benefit of increase sales.

It is only a beneficial to increase size, if you crest the hump of the SD curve and have enough product out there that statically you’re making more product that warranty claims.

Is there any progress/aspirations to have a BMW that can talk over a CAN system removing the requirement for a shunt in the system?
