Major upgrade coming for the PowerPaul Australia test benches…
We’ve been enhancing our test benches at every opportunity since we began, and we’re not done yet. Coming in the next week or two, we’ll be installing 2 Victron Smart shunts on every test rig (24 in total, plus the 24v bench). This will provide us with more consistent and reliable test data compared to our original shunts. Although those shunts are already within about 1% of the Victron ones, so they’re already excellent.
Using these Smart Shunts should enable us to collect accurate voltage data too, our previous setup wasn’t designed with voltage or power in mind, it was purely current oriented. We may eventually be able to provide customers with individual plots of their battery during the initial tests, a birth certificate of sorts. But we’re a little way off that yet.
Our main aim now is to work out the neatest and most efficient way of obtaining the Ah consumed, Wh consumed, as well as be able to reset these figures remotely. We can do it via the BT App, however that is time consuming to do for 12 shunts every few hours, so an automatic way would be very worthwhile. The VRM might be usable, or perhaps even a third party setup like Home Assist.
This upgrade is also in line with being as close as possible to what our consumers are using. The majority of them are using this exact model shunt in their system, so they will know exactly what to expect. This should provide a seamless experience.
