Shunt Test – Junctek KG-140F 400A

The Junctek shunt (pronounced “June-tek”) is available in several Amp ratings up to 600A, so it should be sized appropriately for your own needs, this will provide the best accuracy and resolution. It’s actual resolution is 0.01A (0.1Ah too) which is excellent, even if it’s not going to be much use to most people.

It’s the cheapest of the shunts on test so it faired well considering. It comes with a host of accessories and a very readable screen. However the screen is super busy with data, so it will suit those who like seeing everything. Setup is easy either on screen of via the BT App. The App is also quite good and easy to access via a QR code or search for VAKG in your App store. You do also need to enable some access settings so it may feel a little invasive for some. The App occasionally disconnects but has no trouble reconnecting again quickly.

It’s also the only one that has 3 modules, the Shunt, a CPU and a Screen, so there’s a little more wiring than the others. The unit does

The Junctek read the highest above average for all devices on test, and had mixed results regarding variability. So if you measure a battery with the Junctek and with a Victron shunt, you’re likely to find the Junctek reads 2-4% high. For most people this won’t be an issue but it’s worth knowing.

I feel this would be a reasonable shunt to embed into a DIY system or DIY battery. It also has various comm’s options to give you potential to access it from other equipment. Relay contacts and an audible alarm also provide extra usability for those who want to integrate it into systems.
