That’s right, we’ve had Scouts of 270Ah, 280Ah, 304Ah, and the MB31 cell saw us release the 314Ah. But now we’re making the biggest capacity increase to date (10% more) and reaching 345Ah with our 5th generation of cells.
The case size is the same, the weight is basically the same, and the BMS specifications are the same. All we’ve changed is the cells. This is the highest capacity battery in Australia of this case size!
The new cells are REPT 345Ah, so they are averaging about 350Ah when tested as a single cell, but in a pack there’s always a slight derating. So we’re sticking with the capacity of 345Ah. This is a capacity that can be achieved regardless of discharge rate.
These cells are ESS grade, so they are designed with longer cycle life and higher capacity per volume than EV grade, and that suits RV power systems. We’ve tested the cells from low to extreme discharge rates, and we’re comfortable with maintaining the 250A specification.
However because they are such high capacity, they do last longer, so running at full current for the entire capacity will see heat build up inside a closed case. This means we’re suggesting if you’re regularly running current of >0.5C (175A) for long periods (>30 minutes), we recommend spreading the load across 2 or more batteries. This is usually a standard design consideration as most people need more than 2 hours of run time.
