Shunt Test – Enerdrive ePro+ Battery Monitor

The Enerdrive Shunt is by a large margin, the most expensive of all the shunts available, but it is worth the expense?

When I purchased this I thought it had Bluetooth, however BT is an optional extra module that adds further cost. This was a bit of a surprise considering the cost (almost $500).

Setup is somewhat tedious with many many menu items to go through, and the settings need deciphering from the manual instead of clear prompts on what they are. However many of them can be left as default. There’s no current zero setting, similar to most shunts on test. Resolution of current is good at 0.01A (0.1Ah in consumption), however this will not be very useful for most people as loads tend to be variable.

The variation between readings was the worst of all the batch, with up to 5% variation from what was expected.

The screen is super easy to mount with a hole saw, which is nice, but thick panels may require creative work to fit it. The orange display is not super clear in bright light, but for most people it will be much better than green of blue like some others. The display also shows minimal info per screen, the user needs to cycle through to view various stat’s. However it’s reasonably clear as you cycle through. Audible alarms and relay contact for alarms are useful.

Physically the shunt section was the only model that used M8 threads, which we found surprising considering it’s rated at 500A continuous (600A max). We would prefer to see M10 threads like most others use. There are various connections all located on the quite large shunt module. We feel this could be condensed significantly.

Overall it does the job, and people well inside the Enerdrive ecosystem may opt for this shunt, but due to the price the interest for most other users is doubtful. If the price dropped by 30+% and it had BT included, it would be competitive.
